Call Upon the Name of Jesus

pay phones

In the Psalms the authors write often of the intense pressure from various sources. King David writes about being surrounded by armies while he hid in strongholds through several Psalms. Other places there is scrutiny against those who call upon the name of the LORD. They would sit by and mock and question, “Where is your God?”. King David spoke of those who waited for his downfall with great expectancy often. The Psalmist are quick to point that their Hope was upon the LORD in all circumstances. They knew that Salvation could only come by the LORD God Almighty.

" I am God; and beside me there is no Saviour”

Isaiah 43:11 Brenton Septuagint Translation

The Psalmists write and confirm that there is only one source of relief from all their troubles. The phrase, “Call upon the name of the Lord” occurs all throughout the Old Testament and the New Testament. Sadly, the pronunciation of covenant name Yahweh, or sometimes referred to the tetragrammaton has been forgotten. This is translated as LORD in English Bibles. However, despite this, God Almighty has left us with the name above all names. For those who forgot the name, in the flesh He came, and gave the greatest of all names. The name of Jesus Christ will not be forgotten. Jesus’ name has spread to the ends of the Earth just as the Holy Spirit testified through scripture.

"And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved."

Acts 2:21 KJV

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

Acts 4:12 KJV

Jesus Christ is the name of Salvation, for there is no other name under Heaven in which we can be saved. The Ancients in the Old Testament called upon YHWH to be saved and they were. The beauty in this is that the Apostles had a clear understanding that Jesus is YHWH in the New Testament. This also establishes the truth that there is indeed a Holy Trinity of The Father, The Son Jesus Christ, and The Holy Spirit. One God in Three Divine persons is an absolute marvel.

For I am the Lord your God, I change not.

Malachi 3 Apostolic Bible Polyglot
